Apart from the beauty of Aitutaki and its lagoon, the main reason for visiting is the excellent kitesurfing. We were fortunate to have three perfect days on an outlying island called #HoneymoonIsland. It was the most spectacular, beautiful island I have ever seen in my life (so far!). We took the whole family out in a small boat with Mike Lee who runs Aitutaki Kitesurfing and has set up a temporary shelter on the island with plenty of good quality equipment and a great fresh fish barbecue.
The weather wasn't great, on an off scattered rains and one day even rained non stop while we were all out in the flat transparent waters between Honeymoon and Maina Islands. But still, the place was so beautiful, that even under the heavy rain, I can assure that I had the best kitesurfing days of my life.
It wasn't an easy ride to the little island. The boat was shaking, and we were all soaking wet. Ava Maxima, who always gets sick, had the worst time.
Captain Clemente taking us to the island by boat. Ava Maxima sea sick.

It was the perfect place and light for some nice family photos.
While we were out in the water the children had as much fun as we did, playing with thousands of hermit crabs scattered around the beach.
I don't know if because this place is so beautiful, or because I had one of my best kitesurfing days so far, or because looking at these photos I realise how much fun the children had, how free and wild we all felt while being here, but I know, at the end of the trip, this little island will be one of my favourite spots in the world.
